                     *** GPx 70 Diagnostic Information ***

   GPx 70 diagnostic tapes are NOT sent with OS upgrades unless specifically
  ordered. Diagnostic tapes can be ordered using:

     W514785-103 - Diagnostic Software
     907851-003  - 1/4" Tape Media

   Manual - M0232A - GPx 70 Diagnostic Manual should also be ordered if missing
  or below revision A.

.........................................................................
   There have been instances when DEMON Diagnostics were to be run, using the
  'I. VME 16way Interaction Test', and could not due to the level being below
  FCS release. This is, with the assumption that ALL GPx70 systems are at the
  1.1A*24 level or above; which all should be by now.
   The FCS release level of DEMON is 1.1A*09 or later. There are two (2)
  ways to determine the level of DEMON.

     1) Load DEMON and check the 'Demon Level' at the DEMON display, after
        the Autoconfiguration task. The Demon Level should display 1.1A*09
        or later. You will also notice that in the Unit Test Selection
        option 'I' will have the VME 16way Interaction Test. Earlier levels
        will not have this option at selection 'I'.

        This method will require the users to be off the system and a
        standalone DEMON load will be required, either from Disk or Tape.
        This will also let you check the tape version against the disk
        version. There may be a case where they do have the correct level
        on tape (update) but was not installed on disk.

        See EXAMPLES.

     2) To check the disk version while in multi user level, the Creation
        Date can be checked; see EXAMPLES.

        At line 1, the Creation Date will be displayed. If the Creation
        Date is 02/05/91 or later, then correct level of DEMON is installed
        on disk. If the date is eariler, then the Diagnostic tape should
        be checked by loading DEMON. There is the possibility that the
        updated version has not been installed on disk.

      EXAMPLES:

     o  To check CREATION DATE:

         # pg /usr/mbf/etc/level/DEMON

     o To load DEMON from disk, all users will need to be logged off the
        the system and a 'shutdown' will need to be invoked. Now the
        standalone DEMON diagnostics can be loaded from either disk or tape.

        - To load DEMON from DISK:

          First check the 'diagPath' in the 'bs' (boot SSM) display as follows:

           --> (or --->) pr bs <cr>

DIAGNOSTICS-BASIC FOUR-GPx40 & GPx70 Diagnostics----FIB001 Pg001

          The diagPath should display:

           DiagPath = wd(0,0)stand/dmn/exec

          To load DEMON:

           --> (or --->) bs wd(0,0)stand/dmn/exec <cr>
     o - To load from TAPE:

          Insert the Diagnostic tape, insure that you also have available the
          'Key' for it's use. At level two:
           --> bs tm(48,6) <cr>

               *** WARNING DON'T Use DEMON 1009 on 1.6GB Disk ***

SJ:  1.6GB 5 1/4" disk on GPx 640

PURPOSE: Notify field that using DEMON version 1009 (OS level 1.1B) and below
on 1.6GB drives will cause the drive to go into an illegal state, and corrupt
the data on the disk.

CAUSE: This is caused when running the default disk tests in sequence and can
be avoided by not running test 2 (seek test).

SYMPTOM: The sympton of a drive in this illegal state would show up as media
errors (03/11, 03/14) on the first few tracks (blocks 0-2,000). To put the
drive back into normal mode, run DIVE (formatter) and restore the customer's
data.

FIXED: In the DEMON diagnostic released with 1.1C.
