NEXTSTEP Title: Iomega Jaz Drive disktab Entry Number: 2154 Creation Date: June 17, 1996 Last Updated: June 17, 1996 Valid for Release: 3.3-4.0 Keywords: Iomega, Jaz, disktab Overview Due to Iomega's implementation of the SCSI interface on the Iomega Jaz drive, NEXTSTEP is unable to obtain information regarding the disk geometry from the device. In order to format a Jaz disk, NEXTSTEP requires a disktab entry. Solution Add the following disktab entry to the file /etc/disktab: IOMEGAJAZ-1G:\ :ty=removable_rw_scsi:nc#3584:nt#4:ns#72:ss#1024:rm#5400:\ :fp#160:bp#0:\ :os=sdmach:z0#32:z1#96:ro=a\ :pa#0:sa#1032192:ba#8192:fa#1024:ca#16:da#4096:ra#10:oa=time:\ :ia:ta=4.3BSD:aa: n order for commands like /usr/etc/disk to "recongize" the above entry, you may need to insert a tab before the first line. Use the disk command to initialize Jaz disk. Here is an example: disk -i -t IOMEGAJAZ-1G /dev/rsd2a Note: If the initialization fails, you may need to use the sdform command to format the disk. This is usually necessary for DOS formatted Jaz disk.
