Installing Update 1 of the Borland InterBase Adaptor for the NEXTSTEP Release 3.2 Database Kit These instructions show you how to install the Borland InterBase adaptor on a NeXT or Intel-based computer running NEXTSTEP(TM) Release 3.2. The adaptor is distributed in an Installer package file named InterBaseAdaptor.pkg. 1. If you received the InterBaseAdaptor.pkg file via NeXTmail(TM) or another electronic source, place a copy of the file in a location where you can access it when you log in as root. 2. Log in as root. Only the superuser, root, can install the package. If you're not sure how to log in as root, see your system administrator. 3. If you received the InterBaseAdaptor.pkg file on a floppy disk, insert the disk in the floppy disk drive. (If you have an Intel-based computer, choose Check for Disks from the Workspace Manager(TM) application's Disk menu.) When the disk icon appears in the File Viewer, double-click it to open it. 4. Double-click the InterBaseAdaptor.pkg file. 5. Click the Install button in the Installer package window. When the panel asks you what kinds of computers you want to install the software for, select the kind of computer you're using and click Install. 6. When the installation is complete, choose Quit from the Installer menu. The InterBase adaptor is now available to applications the next time you start them up. Notes 1. When you log into an InterBase server, leave the Database Host field blank in the InterBase login window if you're using the same computer that is running the server. 2. If you purchased the East Coast Developer Conference bundle of NEXTSTEP and NEXTSTEP Developer and installed the the Developer Tools package from the NEXTSTEP Developer CD-ROM, you can try out the InterBase adaptor with the demonstration InterBase database that came with the bundle. Start up the DBModeler application (it's in /NextDeveloper/Apps) and choose the New command from the Model menu. In the New Model panel, make sure Default Model is checked, click IBAdaptor, and click OK. Then in the InterBase login window, leave the Database Host field blank, type /usr/interbase/examples/atlas.gdb in the Database Name field, and click Login. For information about logging in and out, the Workspace Manager application, and the Installer application, see the NEXTSTEP User's Guide. For information about the Database Kit(TM) and adaptors, see NEXTSTEP Database Kit Concepts and Chapter 4 of the NEXTSTEP General Reference, both part of the on-line and printed editions of the NEXTSTEP Developer's Library.
