NEXTSTEP Title: NetInstalling with Additional Drivers Entry Number: 2084 Creation Date: December 7, 1995 Last Updated: December 7, 1995 Procedure Valid for Release: 3.3 Keywords: Net, Install, Drivers Overview NeXTanswer 2085_rc.cdrom_for_NetInstalling_with_Additional_Drivers.txt is a modified version of /etc/rc.cdrom. This is the rc file used during installation. This new version has been modified so that new drivers (i.e. released after 3.3 shipped) can be placed in an install image and installed on systems during a Net Install. This will keep the system from needing to ask for the driver floppy when it reboots during the installation. Also, if the new serial and serial mouse drivers are present, it will modify the Instance0.table to use them. Procedure The following assumes you have already set up a server for doing Net Installs. 1) In /NEXTSTEP_INSTALL/etc (the /etc directory in the Nextstep install image), rename rc.cdrom to rc.cdrom.orig. 2) Get NeXTanswer #2085 and rename it to rc.cdrom. Copy the new rc.cdrom script to /NEXTSTEP_INSTALL/etc. 3) Create a /NEXTSTEP_INSTALL/RELEASED_DRIVERS directory (/RELEASED_DRIVERS in the NEXTSTEP_INSTALL image). 4) Put the driver *.pkg packages in the /NEXTSTEP_INSTALL/RELEASED_DRIVERS directory.
