Global Preferences
The preferences in RBrowser have two levels: global and connection specific settings.
Global preferences apply to all remote connections. Use the Info/Global Preferences... menu item to bring up the panel:
1: Browser Column width:
The width of each column in RBrowser is constant. If the window is resized, you will change the number of columns. This field will change the width of each column. The settings will take effect when RBrowser is restarted.
Default: 140
2: Default Sort By:
Any directory in the File Viewer can be displayed sorted by name, date or size. The sort popup button is in the inspector window. Here you can set the default sorting for the browsers.
3: Default Open App:
If a document if opened from a remote host, and RBrowser cannot find an app on the local host that claims this document as its own, this app will be used.
Default: Edit on Mach/Rhapsody
TextEdit on Windows
4: Default app for hidden files:
Hidden files are any file whose name starts with '.' (like .cshrc for example). These files are usually treated differently on most systems. By default, RBrowser will open them in Edit/TextEdit.
5: File Transfer Options:
p>a: Beep when file transfer is finished:If set, RBrowser will give a sound alert when a file transfer is finished.
b: Animate app icon during file transfers:
Just another way to see if the file transfer in the background is still going.
6: Show Login panel at Startup:
If set and there are no auto logins, the Login Panel will come up at startup.
If set, pressing the return key will open the selected document.
8: Always Open Local Viewer
On Windows the Local File Browser is always on the screen, since it is the initial window. On other operating systems, like MACH, this option defines whether or not the Local File Browser appears as the program starts up.
9: Logging Level:
If you want to see how RBrowser is communicating with the remote host, turn on logging. The choices are:
No Logging
Commands Only: Print outgoing commands
Returned Data: Also print data returned
Diagnostics: Print more diagnostic information
This could be very helpful in diagnosing problems. On MACH the log output goes into the console.log. On Windows, the logfile is in $(TMP)/RBLOGxxx.rbl. If $(TMP) does not exist, the logfile goes into the home directory.
10: anonymous Password:
If you are connecting to an FTP server that allows anonymous logins, RBrowser will automatically enter the string defined here into the password field in the Login Panel. Normally, the email address is used here.
11: Configure Firewall Options
Pressing this button will take you to Firewall Options Panel. where you can configure RBrowser to user various Firewall protocols
13: Set the new settings.
14: Cancel, keep the old settings.
